Here are some key take aways.

1.   The top five industries hiring big data-related expertise include Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (30%), Information Technologies (19%), Manufacturing (18%), Finance and Insurance (10%) and Retail Trade (8%).

Therefore, if you want to be a data analyst, try to find an interesting position in the top five industries, which will increase the chance to be employed.

2.   The top three U.S. big data employment markets are San Jose – Sunnyvale – Santa Clara, CA, San Francisco – Oakland – Fremont, CA and New York-Northern New Jersey-Long Island.

There is no wonder that CA has the most of the jobs for data analysts.  In addition, there are increasing demand in other area as well, such as Washington-Arlington-Alexandria, DC, and Seattle-

3. VWware is becoming the highest demand skill.

Skills following that are Open Source technology and Data Warehousing. It is kind of disappointing that the demand of SQL is not that high.

4. EMC (Dell), IBM (NYSE:IBM), Cisco (NASDAQ: CSCO) and Oracle (NYSE:ORCL) have the most open big data-related positions today.
