75 Words => Career Success

An elevator pitch: this is something you need to have nailed down for when you introduce yourself. What are some examples of when would you use your elevator pitch? Perhaps when running into someone new on the work elevator, but also in meetings, when answering the job interview question "Tell me about yourself," at a professional conference, etc.

Don't quite have an elevator pitch? That's alright, we have some suggestions with the help of Catherine Conlan from Monster.com.
  • Keep it short
    • Conlan suggests anywhere between 15 and 30 seconds are the ideal length
    • Don't give everything away -- you want the listener to get engaged
  • Find something that makes you stand out
    • What do you want this person to remember about you?
    • Like most things, being unique (in a good way) is the goal
  • Make a connection
    • One suggestion is to ask the listener a question
    • Use this to find common ground between you and the listener
  • Highlight pain and solve problems
    • Showcase the benefits that you provide
    • Remind people of the difficulties that would occur without your service
There are tips and templates all over the internet at your disposal for creating the best elevator pitch. In the end, find a way to represent yourself and what you do well.

Oh and practice, practice, practice. You'll be glad you did.
